Hello everyone and welcome to this new-ish series 🙂 You might have heard the title before, or witnessed some of the content in other, separate posts, so I’ll explain what’s going on before all sorts of confusion kicks in. The Sparta Bucharest save is reaching its climax by now, as I have just finished my 16th season. Being a youth challenge, I have tried to provide as much detail as I could about player development and the general management issues in previous posts. This would usually result in really long posts that require quite a ‘geeky’ approach in order to make sense of what’s going on. If you’re more interested into that aspect of the save, check the thread on the SI forums where I go through these issues in a lot of detail. The most interesting side of this project has by far been the tactical aspect and how much I’ve learned along the way, and it seems it makes for a more accessible read too 🙂 Even though I did mention the tactical changes I have made along the way, that part of the story seems to have been lost in the sea of details about everything else, so this series will be specifically dedicated to the tactical aspect of this journey, aided by more detail and insight in each part. As my Italian swear-word vocabulary is vastly improving, along with developing predilections to specific types of pasta, one could say I’m settling in quite nicely in Florence. Still, nothing beats my appetite for football at the minute. Since that infamous phone call at 4 in the morning after which I’ve learnt I’m now the manager, I’m taking things as seriously as one possibly can. I’ve even been given funding to get better at it: Continue reading “Part III: Creativity, Intelligence, Technique – A Club Strategy”

Initially I was going to share my plans for scouting and staff recruitment, but I have yet to pass the first transfer window and have funds for compensation yet. Another point is that I should probably identify the type of players that I will be targeting.
Looking at the initial squad – just considering the starting XI – what I need long terms is the following; Continue reading “Celtic | A Squad Building Exercise | Part III”
Two days in Florence and I’m already a different man. Can’t help but thinking… you know what? People actually want to enjoy themselves here compared to that nihilistic, self-sabotaged mindset you encounter in the UK. Aye, it does help grow the necessary, darker parts of the heart, but it seems not everyone’s so keen feeding themselves stories of life’s futility… certainly not here. On my way to the Piazza de la Signoria, I stumbled upon a meeting that was taking place in one of the more discrete bars around. And guess my absolutely unexpected delight at finding out what it was about and who was attending… Continue reading “A Florentine Renaissance Deja-Vu: Part II – Ritornello”

First glance of the squad was just as I expected. A bloated squad, more quantity than quality really in the first team. The u20s look like theres a few gems to be polished. I plan on bleeding a few in at the end of the season. Continue reading “Celtic – A Squad Building Exercise – Part II”
